Apple
HomeView

As part of the inaugural team bringing HomeView to life, I redesigned and delivered all Siri response snippets on Apple’s newest device.

HomeView is not available to the public yet so unfortunately,
I can only share marketing screenshots for now.

The core design challenge was to build Siri responses that were scalable and felt native on a new platform.

Siri is your intelligent assistant no matter which device you interact with. Because of this breadth, Siri’s infrastructure had to be scalable so that engineering teams do not have to rewrite adjacent code for every device/OS. This led to great efficiencies on shipping features but degraded our ability to build customizable visuals.

HomeView had an entirely new form factor and is positioned between a far-field device and a personal device. We could not just copy and paste, we had to incorporate customized layouts so that Siri feels as native on HomeView as the rest of the app ecosystem.

Infinite permutations, flexible layouts.
A new approach to visual layouts for Siri.

Part of the magic and promise for interacting with an intelligent agent or assistant is to be able to request anything in any form of speech that feels natural to you. With LLMs, we can also now pull in new information and media (images, gifs, icons...) that is not hard-coded in our database.

The tail is infinite, and we needed a flexible design system that stretched our visual layouts based on the length and type of data we got back. Due to its unique form factor, I designed new logic and flexibility into our visual layouts that is entirely new compared to Siri responses on any other device.

Legible and delightful

We put a lot of care into identifying the new font sizes, weights, and hierarchy of the new Siri visuals. We needed it to be legible for the kitchen counter but also not overwhelming when you’re up close. I had the most fun working with our typography expert and our production designer on this.
